Scholar Spotlight (See All)

Alena Daniels (K-012)

by Ms. Holly

She commits to everything. At home, it’s always homework before everything.

“If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.” Alena Daniels may not have heard this saying before, but she committed to its message. In this edition of our Scholar Spotlight, we would like to introduce you to a determined scholar at Rochdale Early Advantage Charter School who would not give up.

Alena Daniels (Ms. Hover/Ms. Fouladi, K-012) is five years old. She has a 7 year old brother, Jayden (Ms. Scott/Ms. Johnson, 2-201) and a three year old sister, Naomi. Alena is polite and attentive, and loves to draw. Alena loves the lessons in her Kindergarten class, and she loves REACS’ art program. She thinks she has become pretty good at drawing flowers and she loved making holiday cards this past December in art. Alena has developed into a polished writer and above all, that is what she is most proud of.

“It was messy and sloppy,” Alena said, referring to her handwriting earlier in the Fall season. “Now I am a good writer,” she said.

Alena loves things to look neat and lovely, and was disappointed that her handwriting wasn’t where she wanted it to be. She decided that she would practice at home with her grandmother to get it just right. Her grandmother was encouraging, and told her to keep trying, and that is exactly what Alena did.

Ms. Daniels, Alena’s mother, was impressed with her daughter’s responsible attitude.

“I’m so proud of her. She’s worked very hard,” she said. “She commits to everything. At home, it’s always homework before everything,” Ms. Daniels said.

At home, Alena is “very down to Earth,” her mother said, and always willing to lend a helping hand. Her teachers agree. They find her to be such a pleasant member of K-012.

“Alena is a kind student and extremely helpful to her peers. She has improved academically from September to January. Alena is reading fluently on a first grade reading level. She takes great pride in her schoolwork and always tries to do her best,” Ms. Hover said.

As much as Alena loves helping others, it is no surprise that she desires to follow in her mother’s footsteps and become a nurse one day. We are confident that her patients will be in the best of hands. Alena’s strive to do and be her best are wonderful qualities to have in a future nurse, and her character is what makes her shine as a Rochdale Early Advantage Charter School scholar. We wish her continued success and enjoyment in Kindergarten.
